Club Night! U.C. vs. Penn. St.

p-uc2 On February 25 @ 7:00 pm the Penn. State Nittany  Lions are coming to to play the U.C. Golden Eagles in Men’s Volleyball. Coach Todd and the Putnam Volleyball Club would like to invite each player, coach and parent to a “Club Night” to show your support for your favorite team. This is a great opportunity for team bonding, parents getting to know one another or just to relax and see some highly aggressive volleyball being played. It also is a great opportunity for the girls to learn by watching their positions and college athletes play the sport they love. It’s also a great opportunity to a Division 1 Championship team.

Admission is FREE if you wear your Putnam apparel. Players and Parents will need to wear their Putnam Volleyball apparel and will need to bring money for concessions  or anything they would like to purchase at the game. Parents please have an adult accompany your player to the game if they plan to attend. Coaches will have more information as the date draws near.

Putnam Volleyball & Lillys Place

The directors and coaches have been discussing a community service project. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner we thought this would be a good time to get going. “Lillys Place” is an infant recovery facilty located in Huntington West Virginia. Babies that are born addicted to drugs are brought here to withdraw and their families are given counsel. More about Lillys Place on their website, Click Here.
We would like to help supply some of the basic needs for the facility. Donations will be collected at practice starting next Thursday. A list of items needed is posted in the comments. Monetary contributions may also be accepted.
Please read the comment about what the babies go through. These are innocent babies brought into this world in pain and suffering because drug addiction.
Pray for the families and please bring in something to help. You are welcome to ask friends and neighbors to contribute. Share this post.
You will hear more about it at practice this week.

Important Info. For Parents and Players

Club ball is all about learning new skills, making new friends and having a fun time. Lets make this one of the greatest’s experiences for the players, parents, coaches, referrers and all involved. With that being said there are a few training courses that the players need to do and some information and new rules for the parents and spectators.

The OVR requires that all Players and new coaches must complete this training before the first tournament. If you will keep score or work as second referee for your team, you must complete the respective courses for each of those; see pages 4-5. • If you will be the Libero tracker or will work as a line judge for your team, you must complete the respective courses for each of those as well; see pages 5-6. • NOTE: Scorers and Libero trackers should view all modules listed on page 5.

The instructions to enter the training and proceed are here at the link provided. Click here to get the step by step instructions at the OVR website.

Important Notice for Parents and Spectators

  1. It is a violation of OVR rules to bring coolers, food and drinks into the facilities that we play, for the exception bottled water for the players, this can lead to a fine being placed on our club for violating this rule. We can eat, have food and drink outside of the building. Most parents will pack food and tailgate at their vehicles, this can be done as a team if you plan as a group or individually.
  2. Due to tight sitting areas, most venues expect the players to camp and put their bags, blankets, etc. at the provided camping areas. The venue is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items, so make sure all electrical devises and valuables are keep by the parents or guardian.
  3. Some venues have chairs or bleachers but some do not, so you will need to bring folding chairs. For information about your tournament specific, such as when the doors open up, play schedule, venue information, venue address and other related information, you can click this link, on the “age drop down” button pick your age group, find the your tourney and click on the “tournament details” button. You can also, ask your coach or a veteran parent to step you through this process.

Thank You and lets have a wonderful year!

Become A Better Defensive Player

1814248076-defense_is_an_attitude    Volleyball is a game of momentum and nothing keeps the momentum and intensity on your side of the net like a great block or a great dig on the perfect spike from your opponent or the perfect pass to set up the perfect spike. So that gets back to the old saying that “Great defense wins championships!”  Defense can carry your team a long way in a long tournament and even the perfect set starts with a great pass.
Defense is also an attitude, the attitude that “NO BALL HITS THE FLOOR.” Having the skills and the attitude will make you a better defensive player.
Part of learning is watching and understanding every aspect of each fundamental for your position when your team is in defensive play. We have put together a few tutorial videos for different areas of defense. Watch them study them and go over them in your mind. Become a better defensive player!!!!
