Hello everyone! My name is Kelsey Matusic, and I am a sophomore student-athlete on the women’s volleyball team at the University of Charleston. I was introduced to the game by Todd Higginbotham in the 6th grade at Winfield Middle school. In high school, I was a three-year libero captain and ended up on the AAA All-State Team my last three years. Connect with Kelsey at U.C.
Senior year of high school, I was recruited by Jenna Brown, head coach at the University of Charleston. As a result of working hard and staying dedicated, I was the team libero as a freshman. At the end of the season, I was awarded a position on the Mountain East All-
Freshman team and Honorable-Mention team, which other coaches in the conference vote on. I love my team very much and admire the hard work we put into the gym and the classroom.
Finally, I started coaching last year under Todd Higginbotham’s wings, and I LOVED it.
While helping with the 16 year old team, I learned what kind of head coach I would like to be. I believe travel volleyball is for players who are dedicated to the game and WANT to be the best they can be. With that being said, my athletes will be held to high standards at each goal oriented practice that not only challenge each player individually but also as a team. With my busy schedule, I take full advantage of every minute I am given in the gym for practice. As a coach who is still an athlete, I understand the importance of team bonding and strive to build a family 4 the court. I look forward to this coming season and strive to lead by example, motavate, listen, challenge, build character, and be each athlete’s biggest fan
