One of the most important things for an athlete to perform at their highest potential and have a quick recovery is Body Fuel on Tournaments Days! The right foods and hydration could mean the difference between you outperforming your opponents or losing your match! Consuming the right foods and liquids at the right time can give you added energy, protect your body from injury and help you recover faster between matches and at the end of the day. Sure a hot dog, pizza or soda pop may be quick and to some even tastier but it will make you sluggish and could prevent you from your peak performance, which will hurt your team! Donations for Lilly’s Place

We always pride ourselves at Putnam Volleyball of teaching the young ladies that play for us more than just the game. We try to teach them life lessons and how to start giving back to the community and making a positive impact!

So It’s time for Putnam Volleyball’s second annual Valentines Day drive for Lilly’s place. We will be collecting items to deliver on Valentine’s Day. 2018 Youth Skills Camp

Get your child started early or give them a great opportunity to improve their volleyball skills. Putnam Volleyball Club is offering a Youth Volleyball Camp starting January 7th for Elementary and Middle School age children. This 12 week camp will be every Sunday will focus on all fundamental skills of volleyball, giving your young athlete the foundation that they need to have a successful volleyball career.

Load, Low Ball & Side Slide Breakdown for Passing

Three areas of passing to improve your court coverage. These are areas that can be worked on at home or in the offseason to make you a better defensive player.

Proper setup, or “loading,” promotes good passing. When working with her University of Wisconsin passers, Assistant Coach Brittany Dildine looks for the following “loading” elements in their setups.

Narrated by U.S. girls’ youth national team coach Jim Stone, this video covers defensive techniques that increase the court coverage for your players and also improve their ball control. Included is instruction on playing a ball that’s dropping low and in front of the defender.

Michigan State University AVCA All-American Libero Kori Moster breaks down her side slide by slowing down the video and analyzing each move. Kori starts breaking it down at the 2: 00-minute mark.

Putnam Volleyball Tryout Dates & Times

Putnam Volleyball Club is happy to announce our upcoming 2017-2018 season travel volleyball tryout dates and schedules. We are excited to be going into our 10th season as an OVR travel club. We can’t wait to get this season started and we hope you will allow our coaching staff to work with and further your volleyball skills. The flyer is attached, so please share with all that you can.

Each team will consist of 10 traveling players and 2 practice players


$850 plus registration fees (Includes Regional’s & Super Regional at VT) Payment plan will be available

$600 plus registration fees (12R Team Only, includes 4 tourneys plus Regional’s) Payment plan will be available

Tryout Dates:

12R – Saturday and Sunday November 11th and 12th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Winfield Middle School

13R – Wednesday and Thursday November 15th and 16th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Action Sports Complex

14R – Saturday and Sunday November 11th and 12th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at Winfield Middle School

15R- Monday and Tuesday November 13th and 14th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Action Sports Complex

16R – Wednesday and Thursday November 15th and 16th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Action Sports Complex

17R – Monday and Tuesday November 13th and 14th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Action Sports Complex



Parents, How Can You Help Your Player Improve?

Passing is one of the most important skills in volleyball but it’s also one of the lest practiced and lesser of the skills worked on off the court! Passing is a skill that can be worked on in pairs on and off the court and parents, friends or other players can help an athlete improve with very little effort on their part. Most players want to play all around in the 6 positions during the game but if they can’t pass well, more than likely the coach will play a Definsive Specialist in the position when they rotate to the backrow. Playing “all the way around” is also one of the top discussions between the parents and the coaches and sometimes the discussion leads to argument and hurt feelings. So if your child needs work in the passing area.

So parents how can you help your player improve their skill of passing and possibly help them gain more court time? All it takes is a ball and 30 minute of your time each day. There are simple drills that you can run with your player to quickly help them grow as a player. There are many great sites and channels where you can find simple drills to run with your girl. Such as, YouTube, “The Art of Coaching Volleyball” or USA Volleyball to name a few.

So put down the phone and spend 30 minutes each day working with your player on the skill of passing. Your time invested now, will pay off in the future!
